Bactria was one of the
easternmost Greek civilizations that bordered the Hindu Kush
mountains. It was part of the Persian empire until conquered by
Alexander the Great in 329 BC. Afterwards it was part of the
Seleucid empire until a revolt in 245 BC led by Andragoras caused it
to be overrun by a nomadic tribe and became an independent kingdom.
Subsequent nomadic incursions ended the Bactrian empire around 130
BC.
